Use Cases & Benefits
- Provides an official Go SDK for building and interacting with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and clients.
- Enables seamless creation and communication of MCP clients and servers with built-in transport and authentication support.
- Use for developing custom MCP servers that expose tools and features over various transports like stdin/stdout or commands.
- Use for implementing MCP clients in Go to connect and call tools on MCP servers programmatically.
- Use for integrating OAuth authentication primitives into MCP-based Go applications to secure client-server interactions.

From the README
This version contains breaking changes. See the release notes for details.
This repository contains an unreleased implementation of the official Go software development kit (SDK) for the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
To get started creating an MCP server, create an
mcp.Serverinstance, add features to it, and then run it over anmcp.Transport. For example, this server adds a single simple tool, and then connects it to clients over stdin/stdout:To communicate with that server, we can similarly create an
mcp.Clientand connect it to the corresponding server, by running the server command and communicating over its stdin/stdout:The
examples/directory contains more example clients and servers.
